Our recently introduced M820L hybrid codec and data processing solution maximizes the value of video data. The M820L combines high-quality decoding and encoding of multi-channel, high-resolution video with high-performance processing capabilities. This enables the M820L to analyze and extract meta-data from video in real-time and then either embed relevant information into the video output or transfer the data to other systems for further processing.
The M820L’s ability to selectively capture and transmit AV meta data to the cloud for AI and deep learning make it ideal for applications that can benefit from such video analysis, including advanced surveillance cameras, digital marketing, sports video analysis, and video content management and distribution services.
The M820L hybrid codec is a PCIe-based, low-profile card composed of the company's flagship MB86M30 HEVC/AVC codec IC and high-performance, SC2A11 multi-core ARM processor. This flexible design enables the M820L to serve multiple use cases, including enhancing encoding performance or adding video processing capabilities to existing systems as well as powering dedicated, high-density transcoding servers.
Niconico’s Next-Gen Video Sharing Platform Powered by the M820L
As you’d imagine, scaling to handle millions of video uploads and views using conventional servers, with their high-power usage and performance bottlenecks, would be challenging – especially as users’ appetite for high-definition video grows. Which is why Dwango, the company behind Niconico, reached out to Socionext in 2015 for help designing a next-generation video processing platform that could efficiently and cost-effectively support higher quality video, live streaming and other advanced features at a massive scale.
The result of the collaboration between Socionext and Dwango to take Niconico’s video sharing platform to the next level will link the service’s video data processing servers with our M820L hybrid codec module. The M820L will help significantly improve Niconico’s real-time video data transcoding performance, allowing many users to simultaneously upload and view high-quality video. The new system, offering double the performance compared to the previously deployed conventional servers, will be deployed later this year.
